Model C Fiscal Sponsorship

A flexible path for community-led projects

Model C is a pre-approved grant relationship between Community Capital Fund and a mission-aligned initiative. This structure provides an efficient, legally compliant way for projects to receive grants and tax-deductible donationswithout forming a separate nonprofit.

Unlike Model A, Model C projects maintain a separate legal identity and manage their own operations—but they raise funds through CCF, which acts as the fiscal receiver and grantor.

It’s a smart and strategic option for projects that are:

  • Short-term or pilot initiatives

  • Volunteer-led or early-stage

  • Operating with light infrastructure

  • Looking to test and grow before incorporating independently

Why Choose Model C?

Starting a nonprofit can take years. Model C allows community-driven efforts to begin doing the work now—while still offering donors and funders the assurance of working through a vetted fiscal sponsor.

This model is ideal for:

  • Grassroots projects that need fundraising credibility

  • Time-bound or seasonal programs

  • New initiatives that aren’t ready to formalize as nonprofits

  • Collaborations or coalitions that want to keep lean operations

With Model C, you lead the work—CCF supports your access to funding and compliance.

How It Works

Model C projects:

  • Operate independently, but with grant funds administered by CCF

  • Submit budgets and funding requests for CCF approval and disbursement

  • Can receive tax-deductible contributions and apply for grants

  • Are eligible for light technical assistance, including:

    • Advisory support from CCF staff

    • Limited back-office and compliance guidance

    • Capacity-building resources

Mission alignment

Community Capital Fund seeks clear mission alignment when reviewing applications for fiscal sponsorship. Interested organizations or projects can start by reviewing CCF’s geographic and program priorities and eligibility criteria.

Geography

Sponsored organizations or projects must serve communities within CCF’s service area in the Kansas City metro, with a specific focus on low-to-moderate income census tracks in Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Cass counties in Missouri, and Wyandotte, Johnson, and Leavenworth counties in Kansas.

Programming

Sponsored organizations or projects must have a core purpose that furthers the mission of CCF, provide an inclusive and direct benefit to communities within CCF’s service area, and work within at least one of eight impact areas: Celebration of Arts and Culture; Environmental Stewardship; Public Safety; Digital Inclusion; Civic Engagement, Civil Rights, and Social Justice; Housing Equity; Health Equity; or Education and Youth Development.

Application Process

To learn more about the application process, email fiscal.sp@ccfkansascity.org to request an introductory virtual meeting.

It is required to schedule an introductory session with a member of the fiscal sponsorship team to discuss your project before submitting an application.
