Crime Prevention Fund
Community Capital Fund, with support from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, created the Crime Prevention Fund (CPF) to support grassroots, community-based organizations working to prevent violence, reduce harm, and strengthen neighborhood safety across the Kansas City region.
Eligible applicants may request up to $100,000 to expand or strengthen already implemented crime prevention strategies.
Examples of What Can Be Funded
Community-Based Violence Intervention & Prevention: Street outreach, credible messengers, conflict mediation, and violence interruption.
Domestic Violence Prevention & Survivor Safety: Safety planning, survivor advocacy, prevention education, coordinated referrals, and trauma-informed supports.
Youth Prevention & Positive Development: Mentoring, after-school/summer programming, restorative practices, and wraparound youth supports.
Reentry & Stabilization Supports: Reentry-focused case management, coaching, life skills, and stabilization supports that reduce recidivism.
Crisis Response & Victim/Survivor Support: Hospital- or community-based response, stabilization, safety planning, and connections to resources.
Community Engagement & Prevention Events: Evidence-informed outreach events tied to an ongoing prevention strategy.
Training, Tools, and Capacity to Deliver Prevention Work: Staff training, program supplies, data tracking, and operational capacity that strengthens delivery.
Partnerships & Coordination: Cross-agency coordination to improve referrals, case conferencing, and collaborative prevention.
Eligibility
To be eligible, an organization must be based in Jackson County, MO; Clay County, MO; Wyandotte County, KS; or Johnson County, KS, and must serve residents in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods within those same counties. Applicants must be a state-registered entity and must dedicate at least 75% of the organization’s efforts to crime prevention, violence prevention, community safety, or closely related work. Organizations must have at least one year of operating history in this area and must propose work that expands or strengthens an already implemented strategy (not a brand-new effort with no track record). In addition, current and/or prior-year organizational revenue must be under $750,000.00, and all funded activities must comply with relevant laws and regulations regarding non-partisan civic engagement.
Community Capital Fund will not fund:
Public infrastructure projects
Religious programming
Lobbying and political campaigns
Requests that do not align with the Fund’s purpose to expand already implemented crime/violence prevention efforts
Proposals to launch brand-new programs without a proven track record

Sole proprietorships and for-profit entities are not eligible for this funding.
