The City of Overland Park offers a property tax rebate pilot program to eligible residents. The program’s goal is to help those in need of assistance continue to afford to live in their homes.
About
The City included $200,000 in the 2025 budget for the property tax rebate program and will disburse the funding in up to two application rounds. Community Capital Fund is the City’s partner in receiving and processing applications and determining rebate awards.
Applications for the first round of disbursement open on June 1 and will close on July 15. If funding is still available after the first round of applications, a second funding period will be available beginning in the fall 2025.
-
To be eligible to apply, you must:
Be an Overland Park resident.
Live in and own your home.
Be current on your property taxes.
Meet very low-income limits from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Property taxes must be paid in full prior to the City providing a rebate. Most residents will pay their 2024 property taxes in two installments. The first installment in December 2024 and the second installment in May 2025. Both payments must be paid before the City will provide the rebate.
-
If the number of applications exceeds the available funding for the property tax rebate program, the City will use the following priority criteria to ensure those with the greatest need receive assistance.
PRIORITY CRITERIA INCLUDE
1. Income: Household income at or below HUD’s very low-income or extremely low-income limits.
2. Appraised value: Homes that appraise lower than Overland Park’s previous year’s average property value. The average home value in Overland Park is $498,188.
3. Additional need: Veterans, disabled people and senior citizens over the age of 65.
4. Long-time residence: Homeowners that have stayed at their current address for more than 15 years.
5. Priority neighborhoods: Homeowners living in one of the City’s risk-watch neighborhoods.
-
Eligible applicants must complete and submit the application (with all required attachments) on or before July 15, 2025.
