Ruskin Heights Community Day Brings Neighbors Together
The Ruskin Heights community came alive recently for a day filled with fun, connection, and celebration. Hosted by the Ruskin Heights Homes Association and led by Beth Boerger, the Community Day featured food, games, live entertainment, and activities for all ages — including horse rides, a petting zoo, and performances by local high school drama students.
The event coincided with the rededication of the rebuilt Ruskin Tornado Memorial, drawing together residents, schools, churches, first responders, and local organizations. It was a powerful display of community spirit and collaboration — a celebration of both remembrance and resilience.
Community Capital Fund (CCF) was proud to support the Community Day through a Neighborhoods Rising Fund grant, helping to make this gathering possible. The day reflected exactly what the fund is designed to do: empower neighbors to strengthen their own communities through locally led projects and events.
In a note of thanks, Beth Boerger shared, “The dedication ceremony for the new tornado memorial was so moving. Kids and adults loved the horse rides and petting zoo. We had four churches, four schools, the fire, police and ambulance, and even the library and LINC joined us. Our local restaurant provided hot dogs, lemon bars, drinks, and brownies. The high school drama students sang songs from this year’s play. It was a wonderful mix of faith, school, and community! We could not have done it without your help.”
