ABOUT COMMUNITY CAPITAL FUND

Since 2012, the Community Capital Fund (CCF) has invested in innovative and measurable community development that strengthens the financial, human, and social capital of under- resourced neighborhoods in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area. CCF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that partners with grassroots leaders and community-rooted organizations by offering funding (direct grant programs and intermediary funding programs), fiscal sponsorship, and capacity-building support. CCF is in a period of rapid growth as we expand our reach, increase capital access, and innovate to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for managing CCF’s core communications and outreach functions, ensuring the organization’s work is visible, accessible, and clearly communicated to community members, partners, and the general public. In the near term, this role centers on baseline organizational communications—maintaining digital platforms, producing regular outreach materials, and supporting program visibility—while laying the groundwork for future, more strategic communications or marketing initiatives as organizational needs, capacity, and resources evolve.

This is a hands-on, part-time coordination role. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, creativity, attention to detail, and a passion for building connections within the community. The position works closely with the CCF team and is well-suited for an experienced communications professional seeking meaningful, flexible work or a candidate building depth in nonprofit communications.

  • Coordinate organic social media activity across CCF platforms, including content creation, scheduling, and basic performance tracking.

  • Work with program staff to translate complex or technical work into clear, community-facing language.

Design & Accessibility

  • Create simple, on-brand visual materials using existing design systems and templates (e.g., Canva or similar tools).

  • Apply basic accessibility best practices across communications, including plain language, formatting, and alternative text for digital content.

Media & Communications Support

  • Draft press releases and assist with media outreach when appropriate, in coordination with leadership.

  • Support earned media or storytelling opportunities tied to specific announcements or initiatives.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Track basic engagement metrics (e.g., email open rates, social media engagement) and share insights to inform ongoing communications.

  • Maintain clear documentation, templates, and standard operating procedures related to communications workflows.

Note: Scope & Boundaries of the Role. To support clarity and sustainability, this position does not include primary responsibility for: donor communications or fundraising strategy, paid advertising or advanced marketing campaigns, brand redesigns or website rebuilds, organization-wide strategic communications planning as the sole owner. These functions may be supported through leadership direction or external consultants as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and content for different audiences.

  • Experience managing websites and digital content using platforms such as WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace.

  • Working knowledge of email marketing and social media tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Canva, Hootsuite, or similar).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Google Workspace.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities within limited weekly hours.

  • Comfort working independently while coordinating closely with leadership and program staff.
