Every community desires to improve the quality of life of its residents, but many also face adversity on the road to creating change. Our communities are creative and skilled in solving problems, mobilizing volunteers, building strong networks, and growing entrepreneurs and small businesses. Yet too often, a lack of access to funding sources prevents them from bringing their ideas to fruition.

Since 2012, the Community Capital Fund (CCF) has invested in innovative and measurable community development that aligns with and strengthens the financial, human, and social capital of under-resourced neighborhoods in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area. CCF is an affiliate organization of AltCap, a Kansas City-based Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), and eEquity2, an impact investment firm.

Since 2012, CCF has deployed more than $3,000,000 to neighborhoods and grassroots organizations, as well as entrepreneurs and small businesses, organized nine Community Development Workshops that have collectively drawn more than 2,100 community leaders, and fiscally sponsored ten social ventures that have raised more than $3,700,000 collectively.

Service Area

CCF serves the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area with a specific focus on underinvested neighborhoods in Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Cass counties in Missouri and Wyandotte, Johnson, and Leavenworth counties in Kansas.

Meet Our Team

Dajaun Hindsman

Community Program Manager
Dajaun provides programmatic support to community programs, as well as maintaining and developing relationships with neighborhoods. She has experience in elevating communities to recognize the power of their collective action. Her experience comes from her degree in Urban Studies from UMKC and her time spent at UMKC’s Center for Neighborhoods. Her goal is to highlight the amazing work of neighborhoods and support them in their efforts.
Andrew Davis

Program Manager
Andrew supports the team through capacity-building strategizing, expanding community engagement efforts, programmatic research and neighborhood relationship maintenance. He brings a unique set of skills that include past ministry experience, a graduate degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas, and current experience as the 8th district Commissioner for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/KCK.
Velia Calcara

Director of Finances & Operations
Velia supports the delivery of CCF programmatic initiatives in the community. From coordinating research and development, including data management and budgeting, to organizing the implementation of CCF grantmaking, she brings an eye for quality, as well as her business management degree, to bear. She was a folklore dancer for many years.
Phyllis Hardwick

Executive Director
Phyllis leads the CCF team and guides our strategic direction. Her work focuses on the development of relationships with community partners, awareness of the CCF community and economic development programs, and advancement of collaborative strategies with CCF’s sister organizations, AltCap and Equity2.
Laura Sanchez

Director of Fiscal Sponsorship
Laura brings broad expertise in the nonprofit sector, from direct service to program management and strategic organizational leadership. Her passion is coaching organizations and businesses to best serve under-resourced and under-invested communities. Laura’s engagement approach, grounded in social work theory and practice, is highly collaborative, strength-based, and impact driven. She is excited to support mission-aligned community development as the Director of Fiscal Sponsorship at CCF.
